Welcome to the Blog
Welcome to the madness.
We are a homeschooling family, with five kids and a sixth on the way.
Long have I been indoctrinating them in the favorite things of my youth, and it is finally bearing fruit as my oldest is 11, and able to join in my geekery.
Once upon a time, when budgets were super tight, I got the X-Wing starter set and two boosters (the Y-Wing and TIE Advanced) for my son for Christmas. We instantly fell in love, and slowly, painstakingly grew our collection one ship at a time, only during special occasions.
As FFG expanded to Armada, the RPGs, and Imperial Assault, I looked through them longingly, but never really entertained the thought that someday they would be mine.
I've kept up a small portion of my RPG collection since back in the day, seeing it dwindle from several large plastic bins to one banker's box.
We started playing Marvel Legendary, and got great use out of the Core Set while slowly adding expansions to integrate into our gaming library.
All that changed one fateful day last year . . .
While celebrating our anniversary after a relatively generous work bonus last year, we came to a startling realization: after 11 years of marriage, we were no longer living paycheck to paycheck. We'd been putting my raises into debt reduction and then savings, and adding portions of it to retirement plans, and hadn't given ourselves a quality of life increase in a while.
My only hobbies are disc golf and gaming. I am not a gun buff, I don't like cars or motorcycles, I don't play golf. I am not a discerning drinker, and actually don't drink unless it is a social situation. I don't collect things, having sacrificed my old comics and baseball cards back in the day.
Stopping by Barnes and Noble after lunch, I discovered their entire range of FFG Star Wars stuff in the red dot discount bin. Maybe it was the margaritas I got her at lunch, but suddenly their entire line of products were within reach . . .
Hauling the overflowing bags back to the car, she informed me that my son and I had better not expect anything for Christmas this year - still six months away.
Swinging by Hastings later in the afternoon, we entered to find a going out of business sale. Again, RPGs, Legendary sets, FFG products, all at huge discounts. Again with arms full and wondering if we can even fit it all in the trunk, I was informed that several birthdays were now crossed out as well.
The bounty was such that it took the better part of a week for my son and I to figure out what all we had got.
In the last year, we have incorporated our windfall into our gaming collection, and to a large extent mastered the rules. Finding stable outside groups elusive, I am now recruiting his mom and younger sisters to play, and I have three main gaming goals:

In the last year, we have incorporated our windfall into our gaming collection, and to a large extent mastered the rules. Finding stable outside groups elusive, I am now recruiting his mom and younger sisters to play, and I have three main gaming goals:
- A Marvel Legendary campaign from Board Game Geek, so that our games can be woven together to tell a larger story.
- Playing Star Wars FFG mimicking the blog-based Talathen Sector campaign, incorporating the Corellian Conflict for Armada, the Heroes of the Aturi Cluster for X-Wing, and the boxed set campaigns for Imperial Assault.
- Finally, even if it kills me, getting the family to play Old School D&D. Several abortive attempts have been made, but this is going to happen.
